“Wine is a product of the earth and fine wine should be appreciated with good food and special friends.” Wine on Napier, in the picturesque De Waterkant Village area of Cape Town, is a restaurant/wine bar as well as a fine wine shop that allows you to enjoy the finest South African vintages in a relaxed, unpretentious atmosphere and then gives you the opportunity to purchase your favourite bottles to enjoy at home.
Although privately owned, Wine on Napier operates from the premises of Cape Info Africa Travel & Tourism Centre (32 Napier Str, De Waterkant, Green Point, Cape Town) and therefore adds another dimension to the CIA portfolio/family.
Charming hostess, Elmarie Taljaard, who has spent a decade working extensively in the Cape wine industry, has spent the last four years working with the best winemakers to create her own unique, limited edition, One Barrel Wines. However, as well as creating wonderful wines, it has been her dream to introduce South African wines to a broader public. She fulfilled this ambition when she opened her fine wine shop and wine bar, along with complementary internet wine shopping site on 12th October 2006.
Elmarie’s special focus is on South Africa’s small wineries who struggle with brand exposure and survival in a very competitive industry. To further this aim, the wines from both the restaurant and wine shop are offered at retail prices. Whilst sipping some of the country’s most interesting vintages on the shady terrace in the heart of cosmopolitan Green Point, she also offers a delicious tappas menu, so you can munch with an apperitif or spend an evening sampling different wines and eat tempting food. For regular visitors, she also offers a specially selected range of “Wines of the month”, so there’s always something new to try or take home with you.
To increase her wine exposure both nationally and internationally, Elmarie created this website that offers wines from the shop plus a selection of the month that focuses on wines from different regions and a variety of prices to appeal to every budget and palate.
